A quiet house by the sea in Takahama
Here on the coast of Wakasa Bay, life moves at a different rhythm. Mornings begin with a walk along the shore. The garden asks for quiet attention. Tea is shared, meals are cooked, and conversations unfold naturally as the day passes.
Guests come here to rest, to reconnect with nature and culture, and to enjoy the quiet beauty of this small corner of Fukui.
But Aoba-an is more than a place to stay. It is also a living house — a place where people gather, share ideas, work on small projects, and learn from one another through the simple act of living well together.
In earlier times Japan had terakoya — neighborhood learning houses where daily life and learning were closely connected. Aoba-an carries a little of that same spirit.
We continue to shape this place slowly: restoring old rooms, planting the garden, welcoming guests, and sharing the stories of Takahama with those who find their way here.
Whether you come to rest, to explore the region, or simply to spend a few quiet days by the sea, you are welcome here.
Slow down.
Breathe deeply.
Let the rhythm of the place do its work.
Welcome to Aoba-an.
